As a Fleet Owner, imagine receiving a call telling you that one of your vehicles has been involved in a grisly road accident. Since you operate locally, your first instinct is to rush to the scene of the accident to see first hand what happened. When you're told where the accident took place you're surprised that it was in an area you clearly told your drivers not to go to. Rogue drivers will always attempt to make some quick cash by wandering off to restricted areas without your knowledge. This is where the Geo-Fencing technology proves useful.

What is Geo-Fencing?

This is software or feature that allows the users to define geographical boundaries using the Global Positioning System (GPS) or Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). In other words users are able to set Virtual Barriers so as to be in control of where there vehicles can and cannot operate.

How Does It Work?

Geo-Fencing is incorporated into systems using special software. This software allows the user to set up triggers to send alerts whenever a vehicle enters or exits any boundaries set by the user. The alerts are usually inform of SMS or emails. For instance, let's say you want your vehicles to only operate in Dar es Salaam. You can set a trigger so that you are alerted the moment your vehicle crosses outside of Dar es Salaam.

With this feature you will be able to know at all times whether your vehicle is operating within the set boundaries or outside. With this information you can then take appropriate action using other features that usually accompany Geo-Fencing e.g. Immobilizer - which allows you to shut down your vehicle remotely.

  • Incidents of inappropriate vehicle usage by the drivers is drastically cut down as they'll know they're being monitored.
  • The drivers will also stick to the correct course hence avoid wandering off to restricted areas.
  • It increases safety because the vehicle is always being monitored to ensure that the drivers stick to the rules.
  • Reduction in stolen vehicle incidents. The vehicle can quickly be recovered if stolen since it is being tracked
  • The automated updates received enable fleet owners to have up-to-date records of the vehicle's activities
